"The Porch" - Jane from Buzzmills

Today, I am happy to have Jane from Buzzmills come.sit. and share! I'm in love with her post and pray my own porch will be such a memory maker in my own kid's lives! Jane is amazing with her kids, a real teacher and lover of creativity, as you will shortly see! Welcome, Jane!

Hi there, I'm Jane and I blog over at Buzzmills where you'll find me most days sewing, crafting or going on adventures with my two kids.  I am so happy to be joining you and Vanessa here on The Porch today!

When I think about the porch I think first about my grandmother's carport which she had set up to use a porch.  As a young child we used to gather there for cheese and crackers in the evenings.  My sister and I spent many a summer night "camping out" under the cover of the carport on cots listening to the katydids and crickets.  It was the perfect place for storytelling and mini pillow making...
Later, I remember our own front porch.  It was not large and was just deep and long enough for three rocking chairs, one for my mom, sister and I.  I remember sitting on that front porch chatting with my mom and sister.  Gathering there again, in the evenings, for cheese and crackers.  I remember watching horse and buggies clip-clopping or motorcycles put-puttering down the road from our front porch.  I remember watching the rain fall from under the cover of the porch roof.  I remember curling up to read a good book, first kisses, silly nights with cousins, games of mancala, jewelry making, and people watching...
Those two porches were the center pieces of our family.  They were places where we made memories and connections...

Today, we don't have a porch, per say, but a deck rather, covered by a canopy of trees.  And it is here, on our "porch" where we all come together.
We gather for crafts...

Our porch has been the center of many, many parties in the three years that we have been here, including a very special 70th birthday party...

This little porch of ours has become a center piece of our family and our backyard.

It is our gathering place.  It is a place for chatting, memory making, story telling, book reading, coffee drinking, cheese and crackers eating, music listening and so much more...

It is comfortable...

Thank you so much for having me here today Vanessa and letting me share my "porch" stories!  Stop by if you are ever in the area...we'd love to have you settle into our porch for a chat, a drink and a snack!

Jane! I seriously WANT to come sit on YOUR porch! Seriously amazing! Thanks for coming and sharing! I love seeing the true LIFE lived right there. The mini-moments grasped and the treasure that they are! Thanks for sharing!
