The Beachcomber Dress: Giveaway

*Giveaway NOW closed! 9am e.s.t.*
Welcome to Week 2 of the Jersey Love Blog Tour with Fishsticks Designs! If you are new here, GREAT! I barely blog at the moment between morning sickness and figuring out being a (foster) mommy, but, hey! That's the crazy life I live and it's goooood!!! Haha!

I was so grateful when Bonnie of Fishsticks Designs (aka a sweet sister in Christ) contacted me to sew up one of her patterns using some yummy Riley Blake knit! I could not refuse!
I chose the Beachcomber Dress from her Jersey Love line and fell in love with this for my niece!
I seriously LOVED this pattern! You don't need a serger, because it's meant to have exposed raw knit hems! I love how that took this dress to beach casual in an instant!
The only modifications that I did to the pattern was to change up the front pockets and allow the hood lining to line the outside of the hood. First let's chat about these pockets... a hint of lime, please!
I seriously love the flare of the bottom portion of the skirt! So fun! I used a coordinating button (from Wal-mart... shhh! I mean, they still carry sewing supplies?) for the pockets!
Next, I changed up the hood a little. I wanted the hood lining (the cute polka dots) to be seen, I literally just folded it out and around the main fabric and sewed it down. It was easy and made it look different and I think it really adds something!
I think one of the most fun aspects of this pattern is the ability to really play with your fabric choices! It looks so great in a variety of fabrics and I really went with the rule "the more the merrier" with this one! Using the yummy Riley Blake knit, I was able to choose 5 different fabrics to play with. Obviously, I went with an aqua and navy, with a hint of line color scheme, which looks so great at the ocean!
I took full advantage of mixing the patterns up as well! Chevrons, wide stripes, solids, and polka dots! I love the array of options within the Riley Blake line! It really made choosing so easy!
Taking photos of these two cousins, born exactly 2 weeks apart brings me more joy than chocolate! So, I had to include Cai in the shoot! I made him some coordinating baggies! If life had not gotten quite so crazy (pregnant, foster baby) right before vacation, I would have had EVERYONE new beach wear, but I'm accepting that I just can't "sew" it all, these days!
If I could only have THAT energy!!!
These children are such blessing from God! They loved the beach and enjoying His creation! I hope you enjoyed this tour today and Naomi's beachcomber dress! She loved it and I think that made sewing it even better!
