Welcome to Designs By Sessa!
I'm Vanessa Traylor! Thanks so much for stopping by! If I could sit down and have some coffee with you, then I'd tell you that... I'm a sinner but am covered by the blood of Christ; a fun loving wife to an amazing husband; mom to the sweetest little boy; and friend to whoever I meet! I love to create and sew and this is my avenue for that design.

I was born in Jacksonville, NC, but I have lived and grown up in Columbia, SC my whole life. I love all things pretty and southern. I'm actually from a small rural town outside of the city. But, with a mom that owned a dance studio my whole life, I've always loved to be girly, and learned what it means to have passion for life and an appreciation for the arts.

I graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2009, where I met my beloved husband, Hart. We got married, had a baby in our second year of marriage, and are trusting God every single day of our life as we raise him up to know and love Jesus as his Savior! We are currently adopting a baby through DSS and are praying God brings our "Beloved" home soon.

I've always had the desire to sew deep down in my being (for reals, because I know that sounds bizarre... deep down in my BEING!HaHA!), but actually began to pursue this new found love while pregnant with our son. My sweet friend, Carla, began to teach me finally how to sew. I knew I had to have a sewing machine after our first sewing get together! At the time her little boy, Charlie, called me Sessa. I thought it was adorable and decided to name my sewing site Designs By Sessa. At this point, I had no idea an online sewing community of online bloggers existed or else, I may have chosen a different name, like Sessa Sews or something savvy like that!!! Oh, well... no going back now! DBS it is!

 Above are my little "Brother" babies that I sew with. I have a Brother SE400 sewing/embroidery machine and I love it! Just recently, I received an early Christmas 2012 present from my daddy, so I'm venturing into the land of serging with my Brother1034D serger! I'm still learning the ropes and reading the manual, but hopefully I'll be serging soon!

After much prayer, I felt that God had put on my heart to use this hobby as a means to glorify Him, so all things sewn and sold by Designs By Sessa benefit some type of Christian ministry, a family in need through adoption, a missionary, or however God sees fit.

Designs By Sessa is primarily a sewing/craft blog where I plan on sharing the things I make with you and I pray you are encouraged and inspired by what's here. I hope you enjoy this blog and grow in your love for creating things, too! I hope it is an uplifting place that stands out for Jesus' name! I'd love to hear from you anytime! Thanks so much!

"She dresses herself with strength
   and makes her arms strong.
She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
   Her lamp does not go out at night.
She puts her hands to the distaff,
   and her hands hold the spindle.
She opens her hand to the poor
   and reaches out her hands to the needy.
She is not afraid of snow for her household,
   for all her household are clothed in scarlet.
She makes bed coverings for herself;
   her clothing is fine linen and purple.
Her husband is known in the gates
   when he sits among the elders of the land.
She makes linen garments and sells them;
   she delivers sashes to the merchant.
Strength and dignity are her clothing,
   and she laughs at the time to come.
She opens her mouth with wisdom,
   and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
She looks well to the ways of her household
   and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up and call her blessed;
   her husband also, and he praises her:
"Many women have done excellently,
   but you surpass them all."
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
   but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Give her of the fruit of her hands,
   and let her works praise her in the gates."
Proverbs 31: 19 - 31
